Guard Dictionary

*Right Shoulder- common guard move. Left hand at bottom stopper at belly button, right hand at tape or bottom of silk above your head.
*Rocks the Hiz-ouse - performing a perfect show with no drops
*Slams- one of the three angles. Right Slam, Left Slam, Front Slam, Back Slam. The top stopper (or tip) touches the floor to the right, left, etc of you.
*Flats- 2nd angle. Right, left, front, back flats. The flag should stay horizontal and parallel to the ground.
*Presents- 3rd angle. R, L, F, B presents. Keep the bottom stopper at your belly button and push your right hand, at the tape, to the right, left, or front. For back presents, keep your right hand above your head, but push your left hand straight forward from your belly button.
*Down - when something or someone is just too cool
*Floor Crew - cute boys (hopefully) that fold and refold the floor. They also work as walking shelves for the guard girls "can you hold my keys? can you hold my money? can you hold my lipgloss?"
*Drop Spins- common guard move. The flag goes from right shoulder straight down. Left hand inverts and pulls the flag straight up. Right hand grabs it straight on. Thumbs should be down on the down motion, straight up on the up motion.
*Boob Spinner - someone who drop spins up high at their chest
*Speed Spins- sort of like a drop spin, but faster. Drop spins are caught at 12:00 and 6:00 (imagine a clock) but speed spins go from 12:00 to 6, as usual, but then the left pulls the flag to flat with the top stopper at 9:00, then the right hand pulls the flag all the way to 12:00, counter clockwise. The movement is "down flat up flat"
*Playing the Trumpet - an excuse one makes when they are making out in the practice room with their boyfriend...ex. "What were you doing in there?" " Oh just playing the trumpet"
*Brain sucker- someone who watches someone else to get the moves...they are often late on everything
*Across the Floors - a warm up your instuctor makes you do across the gym and if your instructor is really mean they make you do it over and over again
*The Boonies Behind the Boonies Behind the Boonies - a place where some guard members live
*Pushspin toss- easiest toss, releasing from right shoulder with your right hand swooping the flag in a circle.
*Horizontal- a toss from behind your back. The flag pole should be across your back right above your butt, right hand in the silk. The flag will fly horizontally above your head like a helicopter and you catch it in front of your face.
*Set Toss- a toss from right slam, right hand in the silk.
*Jenna Rocks the Hiz-ouse - the only way to call shotgun in Jenna's Lola
*Jenna's Lola- her car.
*Halle-freakin-lujah- a term used when an EXTREMEMLY attractive member of the opposite sex is spotted. Often used in a sing-songy voice while the sun comes out and the angels praise him.
*Bag- a mean, stupid, evil person.
*Buzzkill- when something doesn't live up to Mystere standards. (Ex: Ew, that girl is such a BUZZKILL)
*Fishtail- when a sabre or rifle flip-flops in the air when it should stay steady flat
*Carwash- when the choreography isn't together at all
*KACHA- a sound of disbelief. (Ex: "Hey, did you hear that Mystere is the number one guard in all of New Mexico?" "KACHA of course!")
*Skag- an Edgar term meaning "skank" and "hag"
*Skatch- a term made up by Jenna and Luis- mix between skank and bitch
*Attitude Award- the award given by Jason to the guard girl in each competition who catches his eye more times than anyone else
*Catspin- a guard move where you open your hand and let the flag spin in your open palm: like a cat opening and closing her claws
*Toaster- a move where you spin so the flag is straight vertically to the right, straight horizontally above, and straight vertically to the left. You should stay in a box when doing it correctly, like bread not getting burned when in a toaster.
*Air-Flagging- When another guard girl does the work without a flag, whether just to herself or at a performance if you drop/forget your flag. It is standard Mystere Technique NEVER TO AIRFLAG during a performance. If you forget a flag, be a count late and pick up where you left off. If you drop your flag, PICK IT UP.
*Bandaids- People who are teacher assistants for band (steven cough cough)
*Quartermasters- usually beautiful boys who set up the cones and ride around in a truck. Their number one fan is, of course, Jenna.
